Mary Elizabeth was born in Savannah, Georgia, and grew up in a small South Georgia town called Thomasville. As a child she summered in the Forgotten Coast area and always knew she wanted to eventually return to the Forgotten Coast. As an adolescent and a young adult she moved to New York and had the opportunity to study art and regularly visited the museums in New York City. Later, Mary Elizabeth was fortunate to be able to travel and paint and live in several states throughout the US, She and her husband, Walter, had a hunting plantation that gained international attention. Her paintings of Wild Life scenes hang in many Corporate offices in the south. Where ever she was , she showed her work , Her travels also took her to Europe and the Caribbean. Later she lived on a small hunting plantation between Thomasville and Monticello, Florida for many years. She tried Tallahassee for a time, then her adventurous spirit landed her on a houseboat in Saint Marks, Florida. Another change prompted by several hurricanes, which took the houseboat through what amounted to be “The Perfect Storm”. On to life on top of one of South Carolina's tallest mountains for a decade, then an awakening , “Let’s go back to the Forgotten Coast.”

Residing now between Monticello and Tallahassee, yet still in Jefferson County, she is again in the midst of all the wonderful colors, shaded oaks, tall pines and the many other things that inspire an artist. One of her real loves is sharing her talents by teaching and making art into a fun way of self expression. Her classes are filled with laughs and chuckles and well,” shucks”. A number of Monticello folks attended her classes when she taught in Thomasville years ago and loved her style and humor.
