Gurf Morlix CD Release Show

Gurf Morlix CD Release Show

Presented by The Junction@Monroe at House of Music Tallahassee

Veteran roots music producer, songwriter, performer, and Austin Music Hall of Fame inductee Gurf Morlix is touring the country in support of a brand-new release, ‘Impossible Blue.’ He will be in concert at Junction@Monroe in Tallahassee on Saturday, February 9th .  Appearing with Morlix will be special guest, Tallahassee’s own Grant Peeples.

Film star and writer/director Ethan Hawke, perhaps one of Morlix’s newest and most recognizable fans, remarked about discovering his work.  “If you are serious about music, you might want to get serious about Gurf Morlix. Part Alt/Country, part blues, part literature- every one of Gurf’s albums are excellent.”  Morlix appeared in and worked with Hawke on the recently released bio-pic, Blaze, a film that tells the sad and poetic tale of Morlix’s best friend, Texas singer-songwriter Blaze Foley, who died an untimely and violent death in the 70s.

Morlix is know for producing albums for roots music luminaries such as Lucinda Williams, Robert Earl Keen, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Slaid Cleaves, and more. It’s no random choice that Grant Peeples is a special guest for the show. Morlix has produced and performed on four  albums for Peeples, including his latest release, 20018’s Settling Scores, Vol II. ‘Impossible Blue’ is Morlix’s 10th studio release of his own music, his previous releases having topped Roots/Americana charts in the US and in Europe.

Peter Blackstock of Austin360 described ‘Impossible Blue’ as “classic Morlix music, a rough mix of blues and folk deeply grounded in the guitar grit that is his trademark.” In an interview with DailyCountry.com, Morlix called the songs on this album, "the best songs I've ever written," Daily Country goes on to say, “Take it as a matter of fact that every word, line, and note has been duly vetted by the toughest critic he's ever encountered in his 50-odd years of making music: himself.”

Grant Peeples is a singer-songwriter from Tallahassee who tours coast to coast and is a regular performer at The Woody Guthrie Folk Festival, the 30A Songwriters Festival, and The Florida, Folk Festival, among others. January 2019 marked his second tour in The Netherlands, where FolkForum.nl described him “…a pure storyteller, in the best American folk tradition…” and his show “…one of those gems that you will remember for a long time…”
