University Wind Orchestra

Presented by Florida State University College of Music at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall - Florida State University

The internationally renowned University Wind Orchestra, under the direction of Senior Band Conductor Richard Clary, will perform in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall on Wednesday, April 24, at 7:30 pm. The program opens with Celebrations, a festive piece by British composer Philip Sparke. Next is Escapades, a beautifully jazzy work by Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award Winner John Williams, derived from Williams’ score for the movie “Catch Me If You Can.” The work is a sort of “Concerto Grosso” which will feature FSU faculty artists Geoffrey Deibel, saxophone, Rodney Jordan, string bass, and John Parks, vibraphone as soloists. This is followed by a world premiere of Chandler Wilson’s Suite Forty-four, inspired by the presidency of Barack Obama. The concert ends with a spectacular transcription of Modest Mussorgsky’s iconic Russian piano showpiece Pictures At An Exhibition as orchestrated by Maurice Ravel. This is a subscription series concert.
