We’re eager to bring back poetry and storytelling to the Pavilions at MFB, and we welcome you to come in on Tuesday January 8th beginning at 7:00pm. Sign up on arrival for a ten-minute spot to share your original poetry, prose, or story or bring a selection from your favorite poet/author. Or come make a new friend, and just listen.

Kermit Marlin Brown will be reading from his book, My Life in North Florida: 12 Short Reads that’s full of delightful autobiographical stories taking place along the rivers, lakes, and creeks across North Florida from Apalachicola to Tallahassee, Gainesville, and Jacksonville. They start in the mid-20th century with a nostalgic look at a community and a time gone by. Each story ends with a haiku poem and is illustrated with black and white photos. Brown is a native Floridian and is retired from a career in Florida Museums – Museum of Natural History and Museum of Florida.

Our host, Linda Marie, holds an MFA in painting with a minor in Women’s Studies from the University of South Florida, and a BFA from the University of Hawaii. She is a symbolist painter, writer, poet, and playwright, and offers intuitive readings using two divination decks of her own creation. Linda Marie’s poetry has been published in The Texas Observer, Hawaii Review, Blue Hole, and Enigmatist among other poetry publications, and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Before moving to Tallahassee recently, she was the host of Austin Poetry Society’s monthly poetry venue for 6 years. She is excited to be the new host of My Favorite Books’ poetry and storytelling open mic, and is looking forward to meeting and introducing many local poets, storytellers, and writers!
