Fresh from a tour of The Netherlands, Tallahassee musician, artist, and poet Grant Peeples will turn 621 Gallery into a concert hall, as he plays a show in keeping with the theme of the exposition, The Art of Resistance’, using the arts as a means of response to the volatile socio-political climate of today. Doors are at 7 pm and the music starts at 8 at 621 Gallery in Tallahassee on Friday, October 26^th.  Or, as Peeples describes it, ‘Doors at 7-Trouble at 8.’

This is one of a number of events included in The ART OF RESISTANCE EXPOSITION produced by Peeples and visual artist and professor Cynthia Hollis.

“The purpose of the show,” Peeples has written, “is to offer an artistic alternative to the dark argumentative quagmire of the current political situation, and allow, rather, the transcendent power of imagery, symbolism and metaphor to speak to the hearts of the citizenry and its culture.”

Gun violence, the environment, the #metoo movement, election fraud, immigration and women’s rights are some of the themes that are developed in these works. The October event has featured visual art works from local, regional and national artists, as well as spoken-word, music, poetry and stage performances throughout the month.

Artwork will be on display and available for purchase during each event, and during regular 621 Gallery hours, Thursdays through Sundays one to five pm, with the exception of the last Thursday in the month, the gallery being closed to reinstall for First Friday.
