Learn about watercolor painting from plein air artist Catherine Hillis on November 15 and 16, 2018.  The instructor is going to focus on how to pursue a spirit of peace and serenity through painting.  Hillis will introduce the basic building blocks for painting en plein air and then demonstrate how to design, set up and paint a simple watercolor painting outdoors.  The goal will be on developing exercises and ideas that help the painter to focus on art as healing.

Hillis is known for her common sense approach to teaching , presenting frequent demonstrations for clarification and providing personal coaching for each student.  This workshop is suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced.

Catherine Hillis is dedicated to artistic excellence in her work and has won hundreds of awards and honors at competitive shows regionally and nationally.  She travels extensively to participate in plein air competitions.  As a respected instructor and judge, she has taught workshops all over the world.  Her paintings are included in museum, corporate and personal collections and have been published in many venues, including Plein Air Magazine, American Artist Magazine, Splash 12,  Splash 14,  Splash 18,  the Artistic Touch series of watermedia books, the Washington Post and the Best of Virginia series.  Her article "Ten Tools for Better Watercolors" was published in American Artist Magazine in September, 2006.
