Public Reception for The Art of Resistance Exposition presented by 621 Gallery and Grant Peeples

Presented by 621 Gallery at 621 Gallery

Tallahassee musician and poet, Grant Peeples, along with co-producer Cynthia Hollis has put together a month-long exhibition at 621 Gallery in Railroad Square.   The October event is called The Art of Resistance, and will feature works of art from local, regional and national artists, as well as spoken-word, music, poetry and stage performances through-out the month.

Thursday, October 11th is the date of the Official Public Reception of the exposition. The gallery opens at 6 pm, with guest speaker author, columnist, radio commentator and FSU professor Diane Roberts at 7 pm.

“The purpose of the show,” Peeples has written, “is to offer an artistic alternative to the dark argumentative quagmire of the current political situation, and allow, rather, the transcendent power of imagery, symbolism and metaphor to speak to the hearts of the citizenry and its culture.”

Gun violence, the environment, the #metoo movement, election fraud, immigration and women’s rights are some of the themes that are developed in these works.

Other events scheduled include ‘Writing for the Resistance’ on October 13th, a spoken-word event organized by Bucky McMahon and Christian Perez, ‘The Roots of Resistance’ a music event with Frank Lindamood on October 19th, ‘Performance as Resistance’,  a live theatre event organized by Brittany Watkins, and the finale performance, a music event with Grant Peeples on October 26th.  More information about these events can be found at the Facebook page:  www.facebook.com/groups/ArtOfResistance or at www.grantpeeples.com/artshows
