The Apalachicola River is one of the most ecologically diverse rivers in the northern hemisphere, and has been recognized through designations as an Aquatic Preserve, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a National Estuarine Research Reserve and an Outstanding Florida Water. The Apalachicola River also contributes 35% of the freshwater to the Gulf of Mexico which is vitally important to both the commercial and recreational fishing industries in the northeastern Gulf.

This year, October 9-13th, Anita Grove and Janine Gedman, will be kayaking the full length of the Apalachicola River with 15 other Apalachicola supporters to bring greater regional and national awareness to the challenges facing the Apalachicola River and Bay while raising funds for the Apalachicola Riverkeeper, the sole non-profit devoted protecting the health of the Apalachicola River and Bay. We will put-in near the state line in Chattahoochee then five days and 107 miles later take out in Apalachicola. Paddlers are responsible for their own expenses, so your tax deductible donation will be used to help this worthy nonprofit focus on preserving this American treasure.
