Join us for a free performance by Cuban tres guitar virtuoso Renesito Avich at Mission San Luis!
Join us at Mission San Luis for a free performance by the “one-man Cuban band,” Renesito Avich. Considered a virtuoso of the Cuban tres guitar, Avich has mastered the son, or traditional folk music of Cuba, and continues to explore the related styles of nengón, changüí, and kiriva in original compositions.
Renesito Avich, a winner of several national competitions, hails from the culturally rich Santiago de Cuba where he began singing and playing the Cuban tres guitar at 14. As a teenager, Avich performed with some of Cuba’s hottest groups and went on to tour internationally before settling in Sarasota in 2014. He keeps Sarasota area audiences dancing in regular performances, and teaches music at Sarasota County Technical Institute. Avich recently released the album A Solo (available on Amazon and iTunes), featuring songs inspired by his homeland. For more visit: http://renesitoavich.com.
Avich is featured as part of the 2018 Folklife Artist-in-Residence Program sponsored by the Florida Folklife Program and the Florida State University Center for Music of the Americas.
