ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Jihye Chang has performed in venues throughout the United States, Canada, Korea, France, Brazil, Costa Rica, and Honduras. Her performances and recordings have been broadcast on KBS TV and KBS FM Radio Korea, PBC TV Korea, Yedang TV Korea, and Costa Rica Classical Radio, and she has appeared as a soloist with the Wonjoo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Virtuosi of Festival Internacionale de Musica in Recife, the Indiana University New Music Ensemble, Fargo Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, the Sun-Hwa Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Hot Springs Festival Ensemble. An avid performer of new music, she has been a frequent guest artist of the Studio 2021 Series at Seoul National University, and new music festivals at Ball State University, FSU, and the University of Louisville, and was the first winner of the Mikhashoff International Competition for Pianist-Composer Collaboration in 2008. She has premiered more than thirty works, many of them written for her, and has closely worked with David Dzubay, John Harbison, George Perle, Steve Rouse, Marc Satterwhite, and Gunther Schuller, among others. Together with violinist Benjamin Sung, she released a CD of four pieces for violin and piano by young American composers (three of which were written for them) on Albany Records in June 2013. She holds the D.M. degree in piano performance from Indiana University under the tutelage of György Sebök, Reiko Neriki, and Edward Auer; her doctoral research on the etudes of György Ligeti and Unsuk Chin has evolved into an ongoing series of lectures and recitals exploring the piano etudes and miniatures of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Evan Jones holds the D.M.A. in cello performance and the Ph.D. in music theory from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Steven Doane, Pamela Frame, and Alan Harris. He also studied with Antonio Lysy at McGill University and with Pierre Djokic and Shimon Walt at Dalhousie University. On faculty at the Florida State University College of Music since 2001, he formerly served as cello instructor at Colgate University and as Pamela Frame's assistant at Eastman. He gave the world premieres of solo works by Clifton Callender, Robert Morris, and Ciro Scotto, the North American premieres of solo and chamber works by Iannis Xenakis, and the New York City premieres of works by Christopher Auerbach-Brown and Dexter Morrill (in Weill Recital Hall and Merkin Hall, respectively). He has performed under the auspices of the Banff Centre for the Arts, Baroque SouthEast, Electronic Music Midwest, Music on the Lake, Musique Royale, the Orford Arts Centre, the Scotia Festival of Music, the Spark Festival, and the Syracuse Society for New Music, as well as on faculty recital programs at Florida State University and at national meetings of CMS, MTNA, SEAMUS, and SMT. He previously appeared as principal cellist of the Binghamton Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, and the Montreal Chamber Players, and currently serves as Assistant Principal in the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra.
