"Exploring the Present Through the Past" Paintings by Lawrence Tobe at Jefferson Arts Gallery

Presented by Jefferson Arts Gallery at Jefferson Arts Gallery

Jefferson Arts Gallery invites you to "Exploring the Present Through the Past" an exhibition of abstract paintings by Lawrence Tobe.

After many years of artistic endeavors, I have been asked the following questions: Why do you paint and how can I understand your paintings? I have visited many museums and travelled to many countries during my life as an artist. I collected many ideas about artistic images. My interest has always been in artists of the past and how they communicated ideas about the unknown, such as life after death and immortality. The images of the unknown used by ancient artists occur on rock engravings as well as tree barks in Australia. Also, the approach of some artists was the production of cave paintings of the act of hunting animals. Many of these wall paintings and early images include abstract symbols which I have included in my paintings.
