Cornell University Chorus Gulf Coast Tour

Presented by Tallahassee Civic Chorale at Co Cathedral of Saint Thomas More

The Cornell University Chorus is pleased to announce their 2018 Tour of the Gulf Coast.  Hailing from Ithaca, New York, the Chorus will begin their tour on Friday, January 5th, making stops in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Tallahassee, Tampa, Sarasota, Naples, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale.  On January 13th, at 7PM, the Chorus will be performing at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Tallahassee.

The renowned treble choir's tour program explores themes of solitude and community, as reflected in renaissance motets, folk songs, gospel, world music, and contemporary compositions. A highlight will be a brand new commission from Canadian composer Christine Donkin, capturing one of the last sightings of a possibly extinct bird, the Ivory Billed Woodpecker. The program will conclude, as usual, with traditional Cornell Songs.

Founded in 1920, the Cornell University Chorus is Cornell's premier treble voice ensemble.  The ensemble has gained a reputation as one of the nation's outstanding treble choirs.  Comprised of sixty singers, the Chorus performs a repertoire spanning eight centuries and ten languages, including masses, motets, spirituals, folk, and a variety of other classical and contemporary pieces. Since 2001, the Chorus has made a special point of commissioning new works from women composers with the goal of expanding the contemporary repertoire for treble voices.
