Goin' Down South will feature LaVon Van Williams, Jr. stained reliefs and wood-carved figures inspired by African-American southern history and culture.
Williams is a fifth generation wood carver originally from Sanford, Florida and his career spans nearly 30 years where he currently has his studio in Kentucky. His relief sculptures featured in Goin’ Down South are largely influenced by life in the South, cultural lore, and his love of jazz music, among some of his other influences. Goin’ Down South will feature Williams’ intricately designed wood carvings from early in Williams’ career to his most current works created in 2018, addressing the cultural, social, and historical lives of African-Americans.
Goin' Down South will be on view from February 16 - March 23.
