Roger Raepple Long Exposure Photography

Presented by Gadsden Arts Center & Museum at Gadsden Arts Center & Museum

Four great exhibitions open January 12 at 6pm at the Gadsden Arts Center & Museum. The opening reception is open to the public, with admission waived for the evening.

The 46th Florida Watercolor Society traveling exhibition is a showcase of master watercolorists working in Florida today. The traveling exhibition presents the top 36 of 100 works selected for the FWS annual exhibition, juried by internationally known watercolorist and illustrator Iain Stewart. Works range from light-infused traditional transparent watercolor to exciting, experimental water media pieces. Best of Show award winner in the exhibition is Quincy’s own Dean Mitchell, earning the honor with his contemplative and ethereal portrait entitled Carrie Mae. Angie Barry, Curator will offer a presentation at 6:30pm, discussing a brief history of watercolor, transparent watercolor, and contemporary trends in water media.

This group of exhibitions also features Roger Raepple’s long exposure photography, Enamels by Kathleen Wilcox and students, and work by Gadsden Arts Artists Guild members. Roger Raepple’s photographs of scenic places are created using a long-exposure technique that captures an additional sense of time passing while the object or scene remains stationary. Kathleen Wilcox and students Kathy Burnett, Terrie Corbett, Lynda Hartnig, Jaye Houle, Emoryette McDonald, Camille Patton, Teresa Rever, and Elvie Rubio introduce visitors to the ancient, delicate, and very challenging art of enameling. Artist Guild members share their works in a wide range of subjects, mediums and styles.
