Set in Richmond, CA, a city haunted by fatal turf wars, this film follows Donté Clark and other young poets as they mount an urban adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with the hope of starting a dialogue about violence in their city.
Opening Nights at FSU and South Arts’ Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers is proud to present a screening of the powerful documentary Romeo is Bleeding.
“From Executive Producer Russel Simmons, this award winning documentary follows Donté Clark, a young poet who transcends the violence in his hometown by writing about his experiences. Growing up in Richmond, CA, a city haunted by a fatal turf war, Donté and the like-minded youth of the city mount an urban adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with the hope of starting
a dialogue about violence in the city.”
Southern Shakespeare Company is partnering with Opening Nights on this event and The Village Square will moderate a Q&A session after the screening with filmmaker Donté Clark.
