November Story Slam - Harvest

November Story Slam - Harvest

Presented by Midtown Reader at Midtown Reader

Midtown Reader hosts Story Slam on the first Thursday of each month from 6:30-7:30 pm. November's Story Slam will be held on a Friday due to scheduling conflicts. We are now accepting submissions for November's event; six authors will be chosen to read at an open-mic night in the store.

November is a month of sharing, giving thanks, and harvesting. For this reason, the theme for November is "Harvest." Write a piece of 600 words or less that fits in with this theme.

We are delighted to continue our partnership with the Tallahassee Writers' Association and local talent to bring you a night of terrific fiction and nonfiction!

WRITERS: Please use the following criteria for all submissions:

*Times New Roman/12 pt font/1”margins/double-spaced
*600 words or less
*Fiction or Nonfiction
*Due the last Thursday of the month (this month's deadline: October 26)
* Writing piece should fit with the theme of "harvest."
*If selected, must be available to read the evening of November 10.
*Name should not appear anywhere on the submission itself.
* Please include a brief cover letter within the email.
*Send your submission to storyslam@midtownreader.com

Colleen Mayo, FSU creative writing Ph.D. student, will be emceeing our Story Slam and helping select our writers/readers each month while Sean Towey is spending time with his newborn daughter. Colleen has work published in The Sun Magazine, Bluestern, and The Southeast Review. She hosts a podcast on writing at FSU with Sean Towey. Colleen is from Austin, TX, and lives in a yellow house with her husband and her cat.

We hope to see writers and readers alike come out to this event to support local talent and help the Tallahassee literary scene to grow!
