Bruce Means is President and Executive Director of the Coastal Plains Institute and Land Conservancy. A field ecologist with more than 50 years’ experience, his main research interests center on ecosystems of the southeastern US, longleaf pine ecosystem, ecology of South American tepuis, biogeography, wetlands ecology, amphibians and reptiles, and rare and endangered species. He has published 10 books and 295 scientific research papers, contract reports, and popular articles. He and his work have been featured in numerous documentary films for National Geographic Explorer, BBC Television, and PBS. His love of the Florida panhandle has resulted in discovery and naming of two new species of blind cave crayfishes, 3 species of salamanders, and a kingsnake. A 40-year study of the natural history of the eastern diamondback rattlesnake was just culminated in his recently published book, DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH.
