Exhibition Opening & Creative Conversation | Faces

Presented by Thomasville Center for the Arts at Grassroots Coffee

Faces is a collaborative painting series from Florida State University’s Intermediate Painting class, with a recurrent theme of portraiture. Taught by Carrie Ann Baade, this course is taken only after completing Beginning Painting. It is an intensive studio course that offers painting as a means of investigating content and concepts. The emphasis is on developing ideas while refining techniques of handling paint. Class assignments range from still lifes to self portraits, or in this case, landscapes.

Each artist takes drastically different approaches in how they express the essence of the individuals in their work, showing an appreciation for artistic diversity. It is through the expressions of these portraits that the viewer has no choice but to connect with the image at hand and inevitably is confronted with whatever story it has to tell. By creating a compelling image of a face using artistic intention, it leads to the action of facing whatever message is being sent by both the artist and the figure being depicted.

The Opening Reception of Faces will be held at Grassroots on Thursday, October 5th from 5:30-6:30 pm, followed by an intimate Creative Conversation with the artists from 6:30-7:30 pm.
