Rad Kids Activism Club! - Theatre of the Oppressed

Rad Kids Activism Club! - Theatre of the Oppressed

Presented by The Plant at The Plant

Rad Kids Activism Club is a place for children of all ages to learn about social justice issues that affect the world in which they live in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment. The goal is to empower children to be part of positive change.

This month, Donna Cotterell, founder of Indaba Theatre of Florida, will be leading the children in using Theatre of the Oppressed techniques to address social justice issues. These are interactive approaches; the kids will determine the themes, and everyone plays a role.

Our loose agenda for this event is:
-Introductions
-Icebreaker game
-Guided meditation to get ready for this work
-Brainstorming on the topic for the performance
-Break into smaller groups, work on plan for about 10 minutes
-Reunite participants for interactive performance
-Post performance debriefing
-Additional games/techniques if time allows
-Guided meditation to end.
Donna will remain available to chat afterward, as well.

The Plant asks that a small donation be made by each family in attendance to help with operating costs. Please donate anywhere from $1-$5. If making a donation is a financial barrier for you family, please still come and don't worry about making a donation!

A guardian must remain at The Plant and throughout the event with their child.

The Plant is an all-inclusive creative space, where everyone is welcomed and empowered to organize, research, and encourage the free expression of others. The Plant is a not for profit venue and is operated by volunteers. Events held at The Plant are usually FREE but donations are encouraged. ALL AGES INVITED.

Our hours are very irregular. See our Facebook monthly calendar and call first if you would like to meet with a Key Volunteer.
