Vietnam: No Single Story, No Single Song

Vietnam: No Single Story, No Single Song

Presented by WFSU at WFSU Public Media

In Ken Burns new documentary series, “The Vietnam War”, he focuses on the idea that “There is no single truth in war.” Meaning that everyone has a different story to tell and a different perspective to tell from which to tell it. Coming this October 19, WFSU Public Media explores that idea and expands on it with the idea that during the Vietnam War, there was no single song that defined the era either. Starting at 7pm ET that day, WFSU Public Media will be hosting a 2-hour live event in our studio called “Vietnam: No Single Story, No Single Song.”

Thanks in part to a grant by WETA and Ken Burns “The Vietnam War as well as the Florida Humanities Council, “No Single Story, No Single Song will feature local bands performing iconic songs of the 60s and 70s that helped define that time period. Artists scheduled to perform include: Mimi Hearn & Frank Graham, Sway Jah Vu, YellaSoul, and Rachel Hillman. Clips from Ken Burns’ The Vietnam War documentary will be shown as well as local interviews with veterans, protestors, and family members. Plus, there will be readings by Pulitzer Prize Winning-Author and Vietnam Veteran, FSU Professor Robert Olen Butler and a moderated discussion about the war and its meaning.
