Loco for Love Fiesta

Loco for Love Fiesta

Presented by Theater with a Mission at Mickee Faust Clubhouse

Loco for Love fiesta combines high-spirited family fun with captivating cultural exploration and an attractive ticket price.

Like a party during Florida’s Spanish past, this fiesta offers a whole tapas-menu full of treats.  Here you can taste foods that Cervantes celebrated in Don Quixote, sing songs that Shakespeare wrote into Hamlet, tap your foot to dances that date back to times before anyone Spanish or English had set foot in America, and laugh along with comic scenes that poke fun at timeless human foibles.  There will even be two professional wrestlers on hand to show you how theater tricks hundreds of years old still turn up in hand-to-hand entertainment today.

At the center of the fiesta stands a play that lets you see the world through 17th-century eyes – Loco for Love:  Cervantes v. Shakespeare in the Cliffhanger Wedding.  This fascinating play combines scenes that are 400 years old with responses that audience members give the actors on the spot, to create a storytelling smackdown where you’ll decide who tells the best story about a wedding gone wrong, Cervantes or Shakespeare.  In the process, you’ll explore differences between historic ideas about going crazy for love, just in time for the 200th anniversary of Florida transitioning from a Spanish provincia to a US territory.

The price is right, and the place is ideal.  Entrance to the fiesta is free (though vendors may charge for their wares).  All activities are at Railroad Square, in the Mickee Faust garden and Schnittman Hall and Clubhouse, right next to newly developed green space with City playgrounds and picnic tables.
