Let's Bowl

Let's Bowl

Presented by Thomasville History Center at Thomasville History Center

The doors of the 1896 O.C. Ewart Bowling Alley, on the property of the Thomas County Museum of History, will open to the public for a night of fun and friendly competition on Thursday, August 10, 2017.  Two teams of four adults (ages 21+) will have the opportunity to play two full games of ten-pin bowling in the historic alley. Registration is open to all community members and participants are encouraged to have their team of four secured prior to registration.  The registration fee is $25 per person and is due when you register.

Due to the limited space for this event, only two teams will be able to bowl but each participant may bring along a “plus one” to observe the fun. The Museum will provide a pinsetter and scorekeeper for the event and AJ Moonspin Gourmet Pizza & Pasta has generously agreed to provide pizza for the competitors. Guests may bring their own beverages and snacks as well. The tournament will kick off at 7pm. To register your team please contact Thomas County Historical Society at history@rose.net. You will be asked to provide the names and contact information for each member of your team.

Oliver C. Ewart, a banker who split his time between New York and Mount Vernon, Ohio, purchased the lot at 725 North Dawson Street in 1893 and built a three-level mansion. Three years later, he added a ten-pin bowling lane/shooting gallery/gymnasium for his son. The Alley remained on the property far beyond the Ewarts and was enjoyed by later property owners including the Flowers and Roberts families.  The Ewart Bowling Alley is believed to be one of the oldest private free-standing bowling alleys left in the United States.
