African American Treasures - The Kinsey Collection

Presented by Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) at Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery- FAMU

With education as a goal, African-American Treasures from The Kinsey Collection presented by Toyota highlights the significant accomplishments of African Americans in building this nation, telling the many untold stories of achievements, and contributions that have been left out of the history books. Since 2006, The Kinsey Collection has exhibited in 18 cities and seen by more than five million visitors.

It is the first private collection to ever be shown at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., the most visited museum in the world. Currently, visitors at EPCOT Walt Disney World can experience “Re-discovering America: Family Treasures from The Kinsey Collection,” on display through 2018. The Kinsey Collection was cited in three national awards, including the President’s National Award for Museum and Library Services.

The collection has been chronicled in more than 400 articles and television programs worldwide. Bernard Kinsey has served as past president of the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) National Alumni Association representing over 70,000 alumni worldwide. He and his wife Shirley Pooler Kinsey along with their son Khalil Kinsey are graduates of FAMU. The Kinsey Collection will unveil its exhibition at FAMU in the Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery beginning on January 23 through March 25.
