New Orleans master piano artist Tom McDermott (featured in the HBO series “Treme”) makes his Tallahassee debut.
Grounded in ragtime and other New Orleans styles, Tom McDermott adds a mind-blowing blend of Brazilian, Cuban, traditional jazz, Dixieland, Tin Pan Alley and popular song standards, stride and blues, classical and much more. It's surprising, delightful, richly complex yet perfectly accessible, made even more enjoyable by his banter and vast wealth of musical knowledge. It's like a master class in music history.
Doors open 6 pm, show begins about 7 pm.
"Mr. McDermott is not simply a follower of tradition or a repository of old tunes. He composes within his wide-ranging idiom with a knowledgeable feeling for his sources and a sense of humor.” -John S. Wilson, New York Times, 1986
"Mr. McDermott’s time-warped parlor music turns out to be as wily as it is elegant." - John Pareles, New York Times, January 2014
"The longtime New Orleans resident could be channeling the past, exploring the earlier jazz, classical and ragtime sounds that have fed into the Crescent City’s semitropical mélange." - Clea Simon, Offbeat, September 2013
