FSU Opera presents Leonard Bernstein's Candide

FSU Opera presents Leonard Bernstein's Candide

Presented by Florida State University College of Music at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall - Florida State University

The story of Candide is a French satire first published by Voltaire in 1759. The story begins with Candide and a group of his peers being taught by his mentor, Pangloss, that his current home life is “The Best of All Possible Worlds.” It is at this point that a series of truly unfortunate events begin to unfold, leading Candide to question the validity of his mentor’s proclamation.

Following its premier as a musical in 1956, Leonard Bernstein revised the piece for a number of years finally coming to what he called his “final revised version” for the Scottish Opera in 1988. Matthew Lata and Douglas Fisher guide the USO Orchestra and FSU student cast in this wonderful production presented at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall.
