Florida's First Highwaymen - Opening Reception

Presented by Gadsden Arts Center & Museum at Gadsden Arts Center & Museum

Inspired and aided by Florida’s premier landscape painter, A.E. “Bean” Backus, the early Highwaymen applied natural artistic ability, charisma, generosity, and business genius to overcome obstacles and make a living as landscape painters. Florida’s First Highwaymen presents works from 1948 though the 1960’s by A.E. Backus, Alfred Hair, Harold Newton, James Gibson, Livingston Roberts, R.A. Roy McLendon, Al Black, Sam Newton, Willie Roberts, and Mary Ann Carroll. All galleries open at 6pm, with presentations beginning at 6:30pm and 7:30pm.
