Film Night: Apalachicola River

Presented by Blue Tavern Tallahassee at Blue Tavern

"Apalachicola River: An American Treasure"
a film by Elam Stoltzfus
“For its scale, diversity, and history, the Apalachicola has persisted as one of America’s least known great rivers. Under this shadow of anonymity, the Apalachicola has been under appreciated…”
— Bob Graham, 38th Governor of Florida and U.S. Senator

This film will take you on a journey through Florida’s largest river: from its origin in Georgia, through the haunting Dead Lakes, and into the Gulf of Mexico. In this hour-long documentary, you’ll meet historical figures who once lived in the area, oystermen who still work in the bay, beekeepers who make tupelo honey on its banks, and artists working to preserve its wild beauty. Filmmaker Elam Stoltzfus, musician Sammy Tedder and screenwriter Jane Atkins all call this area home, and provide an insider’s perspective of this American treasure.

The Big Bend Sierra Club is sponsoring the showing.

Sierra Club Big Bend Group is a member of the national Sierra Club. Our mission is to enjoy, explore and protect the natural places in Florida, to teach others to understand and respect the fragile environment in which we live, and to practice and promote the responsible use of Florida’s ecosystems and resources.
