Contra Dance June 23

Contra Dance June 23

at Tallahassee Senior Center for the Arts

Caller Tom Greene is fresh off of a very successful outing at the Florida Folk Festival, and The Long Forgotten String Band (who have been doing this so well for so long) will play old-time music well-adapted for contra-dancing.

Please tell your friends about this event.

We have a lot of fun with traditional American. set dances -- mostly contras but with an occasional circle or square dance. We dance to live music with English, Irish, Scottish, French and African roots. The caller teaches all dances before they are danced, and prompts the moves during the dance. If you need an introduction or a refresher, come at 7:15 for a quick session. We structure the evening so newcomers can have a good time, especially if they arrive early in the evening.

No special shoes or clothes are required, but dress comfortably for pretty vigorous activity, and avoid boots and high heels.

You may come by yourself, with a special friend, or with a group. We change partners pretty frequently, and anyone can ask anyone to partner for a dance.

Please consider bringing a water bottle (to cut down on waste) and a snack to share at the break.

Above all, please come share the joy of music and dance with others!
