Odissi originally developed in the temples of Orissa, India, as a form of worship to the deity offered by temple dancers.  It has since moved to the stage but retains its spiritual essence. Odissi is marked by expressive storytelling, percussive footowork, and undulating torso movements.

Shalini Goel Agarwal, who has trained with Guru Jyoti Rout and performed widely throughout the U.S., will present a full-length solo Odissi performance. She plans to teach classes in Tallahassee to introduce others to this beautiful dance form.
