Mickee Faust - Queer As Faust X Cabaret

Mickee Faust - Queer As Faust X Cabaret

Presented by Mickee Faust Club for the Really Dramatic Arts at Adelaide Schnittman Hall

Tallahassee, as the state capital, is a supremely political city and for thirty years the Mickee Faust Club has played the part of the court jester making a mockery of the powerful and the way some treat their deeply-held beliefs with preciousness. Ten years ago, the satirical cabaret troupe based in Railroad Square took on the challenge of celebrating gay pride during June, the international pride month. They’ve hosted performing artists and shown films. But the highlight of the Queer As Faust festival is the aptly named “Queer As Faust X” cabaret, opening Friday and Saturday June 16-17 and running again the following weekend June 22-24. All shows will be the Club’s air-conditioned black box theater, the Adelaide Schnittman Hall, 623 McDonnell Drive in Tallahassee’s Railroad Square.

“Officially, it’s only rated with one X,” says Mickee Faust, the iconic and foul-mouthed rat alter ego of performer Terry Galloway. “But put ‘queer’ into a title and that’ll cause someone in this phallic-shaped state to have the vapors!”

Indeed, the Mickee Faust Club is the queerest cabaret theater that’s ever taken up residence in the buckle of the Bible belt. The Queer As Faust cabarets are more likely to tackle explicitly sexual themes that might be best for more adult audiences. And adults will definitely enjoy the humor of the culture clashes between old school LGBTQ communities and the more gender-fluid millennial generations.

“This is an outlet to be loud, out, and proud in Tallahassee,” says Susan Gage, one of the co-producers of the Queer As Faust festival. “Our show gives us a chance to laugh about our lives at a time when we need more humor.”

All the shows of “Queer As Faust X” will start at 8pm with preshow entertainment by the Faust house band Eclectic Acoustic starting in the backyard at 7pm. Tickets are $15 general admission/$10 students, retirees, and people with disabilities, and are available through the Faust website, www.mickeefaust.com. The Adelaide Schnittman Hall is a slightly smaller venue, so there will only be a limited number of tickets for sale at the door the night of the shows.

Come to the queerest show in Tallahassee in June. As local author Diane K. Roberts once said, “There’s nothing like this in Tuscaloosa!”
