Presented by Midtown Arts and Entertainment and Nefetari's and Black On Black Rhyme at Nefetari's

for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf consists of a series of poetic monologues accompanied by dance movements and music. What the author, Ntozake Shange calls, a choreopoem.

For Colored girls... tells the stories of seven women who have suffered oppression in a racist and sexist society. Subjects from rape, abandonment, abortion and domestic violence are tackled. Featuring a series of 20 separate poems choreographed to music that weaves interconnected stories of love, empowerment, struggle and loss into a complex representation of sisterhood.

The cast has been adapted to consist of nine nameless African-American women only identified by the colors they are assigned. They are the lady in red, lady in pink, lady in orange, lady in yellow, lady in green, lady in blue, lady in turquiose, lady in brown, and lady in purple.

Join Midtown Arts/SoMo PlayHouse in collaboration with Black on Black Rhyme Tuesday, June 13 at Nefatari's, located at 812 Macomb Street. Doors open at 7:30 with feature play followed by Black on Black Rhymes Poetry night. Parking is available at Nefatari's and along neighboring streets.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No. Just as a backup it is good to have a printed or digital copy of your ticket purchase.

Is the price the same if I buy at the door?

No. Tickets will go up to $15.00 at the door.

Will Nefatari's kitchen be open?

Yes. Nefatari's will have their menu that is specifically tailored for Black on Black Rhyme night.
