Tallahassee Contra Dance

Tallahassee Contra Dance

at Tallahassee Senior Center for the Arts

We are so fortunate to have fine bands for old-time dancing right here in our community. One of those fine bands is the Smokey Hollow String Band, who will be playing with us on Friday May 12. Alice Raibourn (formerly Alice Milmoe) is stopping in on her way north from Orlando to call for us. Expect exciting dances and calling!

Come to the Senior Center on the 28th at 7:15 if you would like an introduction to contradancing, or a refresher, or if you would like to help with same.

No special clothes are needed, but do expect to be quite active and to get warm. We recommend against high heels and boots.

We have a lot of fun with traditional and new contra dances, with an occasional square or circle dance thrown in, all danced to live music with English, Scottish, Irish, French and African roots. All dances are taught and then called. They typically start simple and gradually get more complex during the evening.

Come by yourself, with a partner, or with a group. We change partners frequently during the course of the evening.

Please consider bringing your own water bottle to cut down on trash. We have snacks at the break because people like you bring them to share.

Lots of information about our dances and others, and about contra dancing generally, is posted at www.tallydancer.com .
