FSU Summer Opera Double Bill: The Process and Charmed Rock

FSU Summer Opera Double Bill: The Process and Charmed Rock

Presented by Florida State University College of Music and Florida State Opera at Opperman Music Hall - Florida State University

This year’s summer opera production features two new works by FSU composition students that present different perspectives on alienation from society.

Noah Nethery paints a colorful picture in his musical depiction of Charmed Rock, an idyllic New England town. The opera presents the struggles of a young girl who yearns to break free from her over-protective father without the guilt of abandoning him entirely.

Joshua Baerwald’s The Process looks at alienation through his adaptation of Franz Kafka’s novel Der Prozess (The Trial) in which the legal system is the focus. The opera explores the conflict when bureaucracy overrules judicial fairness in the courtroom.

These premieres will be presented in Opperman Music Hall on May 26th & 27th at 7:30pm featuring FSU singers and instrumentalists. Tickets are $10 for all audiences, and are available through the College of Music Box Office: 645-7949.
