We've got the Blues, Indigo that is!

We've got the Blues, Indigo that is!

Presented by Tallahassee Museum at Tallahassee Museum

Synthetic dyes were invented in the late 1800s.  Until then, all dyes had to come from natural sources (usually plants).  One of the most sought-after colors was blue; the best source for blue is the indigo plant.  Indigo requires a long hot growing season, so commercial attempts were made in places such as the West Indies, Florida, and Louisiana. They were met with limited success, as preparing and using the dye is complex and labor-intensive.

In this workshop we will prepare and dye with indigo, have fun with some tie-dyeing techniques, and learn about this history of indigo in Florida.

Registration deadline:  Friday September 23, 2016 by noon.

Workshop participants under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

This workshop is limited to 15 people.
