Meet the artists and inquire about their travels and artwork! They’ll share first hand accounts of their adventures and provide details about their artistic process.
Travel takes us outside of ourselves and, much like art, it gives us a different vantage point for considering the world around us. Visiting a new location can thrill and inspire awe or create a sense of unbalance, tilting our axis just slightly past what’s comfortable. Perhaps the difference between regular travelers and traveling artists is that artists who travel slow down to examine, document, and record their surroundings.
Striking out into the great unknown demands careful observation and, by embracing the unfamiliar and quietly noting details, aesthetic explorers incorporate their experiences into their own creative vision. This exhibition is an opportunity for four local artists, to share their travels with their own community. Through a variety of media, Sara Chang, Mark Fletcher, Robert F. Lide and Mary Sterner Lawson, encourage others to see the world, promote interconnectedness, retain their memories and relive past adventures.
The exhibition continues through May 29, 2017 and is one of many rotating exhibitions curated by the Council on Culture & Arts on behalf of the City of Tallahassee as part of the Art in Public Places program.
Free and open to the public.
Guests are asked to park in short-term parking and present parking tickets at the gallery for complimentary validation.
