Guest Artist Recital – Heather Small, flute

The FSU College of Music is pleased to welcome guest artist Heather Small, flute, to Lindsay Recital Hall on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Program TBA. Admission to this event is free and open to the public.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Heather Small is Assistant Professor of Music at Morehead State University (KY), where she teaches flute and music history and serves as a member of MSU’s faculty quintet, the Baird Winds. She is the principal flutist of the Cave Run Symphony Orchestra and an active substitute with the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera. As a member of the National Flute Association, she recently served as a Coordinating Judge for the 2016 Newly Published Music Competition.

An admirer of contemporary music, Dr. Small has premiered numerous works and frequently appears with Steinway Artist, Dr. Hui-Ting Yang. The duo is scheduled to perform at the Steinway Gallery in Birmingham, AL, in March 2017.

Dr. Small holds degrees in flute performance from Florida State University and the University of North Texas.  She earned her bachelor of music education degree from Oberlin Conservatory where she studied with Michel Debost. She is Competition Coordinator and a member of the Board of Directors for the Flute Society of Kentucky.  Prior to this appointment, she served as Chair for the High School Soloist Competition at the Mid-South Flute Festival and taught at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga and Southern Adventist University.
