Come learn to burnish like the pros at LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts with local potters Mary Donahue and Nancy Jefferson. LeMoyne will offer two ceramic workshops during the month of February, a burnishing workshop and an alternative firing workshop.
Please call Studio for Class Details!
Students will experience the beauty of making ceramics without the high-temperature glaze firing process at these workshops. Donahue and Jefferson will be demonstrating the two techniques of dry burnishing and burnishing with terra sigillata. All burnished pieces will be left at LeMoyne for a special cone 011 bisque fire and will be returned at the alternative firing workshop. At this workshop, students will learn alternative ways of making marks and coloring the burnished low-fire surface to create exciting decorative finishes. The alternative firings to be demonstrated will be smoke firing and aluminum foil saggar firing.
The cost is $60 for LeMoyne members and $75 for nonmembers (per class).
