The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park and the National Park Service’s Southeast Archeological Center will be celebrating International Archaeology Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016. Events include presentations by historians and archaeologists, family-friendly and children’s activities, a Living History timeline using local reenactors, and a civil war artillery demonstration (cannon!). The park is located at 148 Old Fort Road in St. Marks, Florida.

10:30 a.m. – Dr. Meridith Hardy, Archaeologist, NPS Southeast Archeological Center: 100 is the New 50! Celebrating the Centennial Anniversary of the National Park Service.
12:30 p.m. – Ellen Andrews, Historic Preservationist, Florida Park Service: San Marcos de Apalache and the Florida Park Service – Fifty Years Together!
2:00 p.m. – Mr. Dale Cox, Author and Historian: Exploring the History of San Marcos de Apalache.
Exhibitors: : National Park Service’s Southeast Archeological Center; Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research; Florida State Parks; Panhandle Archaeological Society of Tallahassee (PAST); Tallahassee Historical Society.
Walk-up Stations: Spanish, Creek, and Civil War Era Living History and Demonstrations; Archaeology in Action kids activities; Invasive exotic plants and archaeological sites, cast-netting how-to, music by Ernest Toole and Jeff Tilley.

The movie in the museum is open-captioned and has audio. Most major activities are wheelchair accessible. A Tram is available to transport visitors from San Marcos de Apalache to the St. Marks Stone Crab Festival, just a few blocks away.
