Tallahassee, FL – October 8, 2016. MFA Candidate, Megan Carvajal, will present site dance, Once Upon a Home, and video dance, 2128 in partial fulfillment of the Master of Fine Arts Degree in Dance, on October 8, 2016 at 7:00am, 2:00pm, and 7:00pm at Lichgate Tree on High Road.

Once Upon a Home is a site-enhanced live dance performance at Lichgate Tree, a tree that is over 300 years old in Tallahassee, FL on the grounds of the home previously owned by FSU English Professor, Dr. Laura Pauline Jespen. Carvajal’s work imagines the passing of time, story-telling, and the memories of her grandmother, Mary Cleveland, who passed away in November 2014. The cast of three dancers, Gianna Mercandetti, Ashley Pierre-Louis, and Carvajal embodies old stories, create new ones, and transport others to an altered dimension through dance theater. Carvajal hopes that these stories will be a catalyst for audience members to remember their own stories, share them with others, and find joy in the passing of time.

Before and after each performance, Carvajal will be airing 2128, a video dance filmed at Carvajal’s grandmother’s house. The 5 min 2128 allows the audience to recognize the passing of time, and how memories can creep up in the most unexpected ways. Carvajal has also teamed up with MARLO, music designer and founding member of VIM VIGOR, to create an original musical score for 2128.

Tickets for the performance are free but there is a limited capacity. Audience members are invited to dress comfortably and to arrive early to explore the grounds.
