Trouble? Right here? In Tallahassee? When “Professor” Harold Hill, the smooth-talking traveling salesman arrives in River City, Iowa on July 4, 1912, he quickly has everyone eating out of his hand. A fast talking salesman, Hill cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he vows to organize, even though he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. But, this time he meets his match in town librarian Marian Paroo. She steals his heart and the con man faces a tough choice: love or money
