We're excited that Gulf Coast plein air painter, Mary O. Smith, will be visiting us for a watercolor workshop on Tuesday, April 30th,from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.  An accomplished painter in both oil and watercolor, her work is easily recognizable for its loose and expressive style.  She is a signature member of the Tallahassee Watercolor Society, and in 2022 was invited as an ambassador to Forgotten Coast Plein Air in Apalachicola.  Recently, at Shadows on the Teche in Louisiana, she was honored with the Best in Show award for her shrimp boat watercolor pictured above.

Though she is known for her loose painting style, her motto is "Plan for Success."  During the workshop, she will share her planning process, along with tips and techniques to achieve a beautiful painting that appears effortless and carefree: "I start each painting with a simple plan of values and shapes to accomplish the composition that reveals my senses and inspirations for the scene... I want my work to have spontaneous and expressive lines, but through a well-designed composition and format."

This workshop is intended for those with some painting experience; so bring your easel and favorite supplies.  The class will meet at the gallery, and a nearby painting location will be determined.  Morning refreshments will be served.  Lunch break will be informal at the discretion of the student… brown bag lunch encouraged!
