Symposium on the Founding of Tallahassee

Presented by Tallahassee Historical Society and Theater with a Mission at Mission San Luis

On March 21, and 22 of 2024, Tallahassee Historical Society and Theater with a Mission present a Bicentennial edition of Tallahassee's first-ever Founding Tallahassee History Symposium at Mission San Luis.  The Symposium runs Thursday March 21,  12-7 pm, Friday, March 22  10am -5 pm.  The event is Free and open to all. The symposium begins with a keynote speech by Tallahassee's own Dr. Lawrence Rivers at 12 noon on Thursday March 21. During the course of the Symposium there will be 8 very distinguished speakers, 3 plays from Florida's Spanish past, and many historic characters to introduce the speakers, as well as food by Halisi Afrika and Real Paella. Audiences are free to come to part or all of this historic event.

The Founding Tallahasse Symposium at Mission San Luis begins March 21 at 12 noon with a keynote speach by Dr Lawrence Rivers, followed by two more presentations of new research about Tallahassee and Territorial Florida. Each lecture will be followed by question/answer session and a short break. Time is scheduled for a guided tour of Mission San Luis. After a break for food the Symposium continues through 8 pm with a lecture by the President of the Florida Historical Society then three Spanish Golden age farces performed by Theater with a Mission.

On Friday March 22 the Symposium runs 10 am through 5 pm ending with a panel discussion of all scholar historians sharing their expertise with each other and the audience.
