6th Annual Micro Theater Festival

6th Annual Micro Theater Festival

Presented by Tallahassee Hispanic Theater at Goodwood Museum and Gardens

THT is very excited to continue bringing this event to our community, a time to enjoy and learn about Hispanic culture, while sharing with friends in a very relaxed enviroment.

Like every year, the classical guitar player Charles Santiago will be performing on Saturday and Tocamos mas will be playing Friday and Saturday, so get ready to do some dancing too!

This year the Venezuelan restaurant Venebites will be offering delicious food for purchase. And there will be a bar, also offering drinks for purchase.

We are very excited because for the third year, THT will be featuring not just one, but two new original plays by two local groups.

These are all the plays you'll have the chance to enjoy:

Like a Butterfly

This is a monologue written by Venezuelan poet Maria Antonieta Flores, directed by Kevin Carr and interpreted by Alejandra Gutierrez. In this piece, a woman exercising in a boxing ring tries to gather the strength to change her life. Poetic and intense, this monologue shows a woman struggling with her own contradictions, and fighting to be true to herself.

Help Me Forget You

In this play written by Spanish playright Carlos Zamarriego, an two exes try a very unsual amd hilarious estrategy to finally forget each other. It is directed by Mattie Ward and interpreted by Lini and Chris Thaxton.

Futurephobia

This play was written by Carolina Larsen, an Argentinian actress and playwright who lives in Miami. Have you really thought how different life will be in the future? For some poeple it could be a very terrifying thought. This play deals with that very human concern and how compasion could be a great way to fight uncertainty. The play is directed by Tahirih Lee and interpreted by Mandy Holley and Maz Neamand.

Jinxed

One of the special plays featured in this festival is Jinxed. In this Golden Age comedy brought to life by Theater with a Mission, another local company, Toribio blackmails a medicine-woman into writing him a commission that will make anyone who reads it instantly fall in love with him. Toribio hands the commission to Mengua, the lady he loves, who looks it over and proves … illiterate.  Hilarity ensues as Mengua passes the commission on to a preacher, a notary, and a cop. Directed by Ben Gunter.

It's Cupid's Fault

Another special feature of this festival is the play It's Cupid's Fault, written and directed by Cathe Suarez, a Venezuelan actress and writer who lives in Tallahassee. In this fun comedy, three betrayed and heartbroken women decide to put Cupid on trial. The play is interpreted by Cather Suarez with the special musical participation of Abraham Quintero. Directed by Roxalix Linares.
