Broadway Version of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”
makes its Northwest Florida Premiere
Leon Performing Arts’ Summer Musical Will Present 8 Show Dates from July 14-24

TALLAHASSEE – Every summer, Leon Performing Arts draws the top high school talent from across Leon County to present a major summer musical production, often to sell-out crowds. This year, a cast of more than 60 performers representing six Leon high schools will put on the Northwest Florida premiere of the Broadway version of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”.

The show will feature a fuller musical score performed by a live, 18-piece professional orchestra, elaborate custom-made costumes, and expanded characters, including tap-dancing seagulls.

The show opened on Broadway in 2008 and features all the best-known and most-beloved numbers, including “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World” and “Kiss the Girl.”

“A show like Little Mermaid appeals to a broad spectrum of ages and has the potential to introduce and cultivate a passion for musical theatre in a new generation,” said Director Naomi Rose-Mock. “Every year, the Leon Performing Arts summer musical defies expectations about the level of quality and professionalism that can be achieved with a high school cast – this show will be no exception.”

In recent years, Leon Performing Arts put on “Phantom of the Opera”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Sweeney Todd” and “Les Miserables” to rave reviews. Last year’s production of Phantom sold out all performances.

“Phantom sold out early, and we believe Little Mermaid will as well, given the broad appeal,” said Music Director Tabitha Peck. “My advice would be to get your tickets quickly.”

The show will be presented on July 15, 16, 17, 21, 22, 23 and 24. Tickets can be purchased at leonperformingarts.org. A special performance will be staged on July 14 to benefit the Dale Pullen Foundation, which provides college scholarships to music students. Other profits from the performances will help fund vocal training for lower income students, provide scholarships for students who cannot afford their uniform fees or the expenses of participating in honors choirs around the state.
