Fred Graham, the director, producer, and star of a musical version of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, has more to keep him busy than his play. His ex-wife and leading lady, Lilli Vanessi, quarrels with him on- and off-stage. And as if that were not enough, he has invited his affair, the promiscuous Lois Lane, to play opposite Lilli in the role of Bianca. Meanwhile, Lois is secretly seeing Bill Calhoun, who is cast as Lucentio. The characters' real lives soon begin to look exactly like the lives of the characters they play!
