Rivers Beneath Us

Presented by Friends of Wakulla Springs State Park at Wakulla Environmental Institute

Explore the wonders of the amazing underground river that lies beneath us. The hybrid evening program will feature world-renowned cave explorer, researcher and filmmaker Dr. Christopher Werner, who will discuss the history of research of this cave system and show exclusive footage from his upcoming documentary. Discussion includes the recent discovery by divers connecting the 7-mile Chip’s Hole Cave System with the 38-mile Wakulla Cave System. Together, this nearly 45-mile-long underground river system emerges at the famous Wakulla Springs. Other speakers will share their knowledge of this incredible underground system, its expansiveness, the hydrogeology that makes it possible, and the impacts of expanding growth, and visitors who travel to experience this astounding natural wonder.
