                                            Award-Winning Author to Headline 15th Annual Spring Literary Forum                                                        IF I SURVIVE YOU AUTHOR JONATHAN ESCOFFERY SHOWCASED Jonathan Escoffery is the featured artist at Florida A&M University's 15th Annual Spring Literary Forum. The virtual event, “I Am Because We Are”: Identity, Migration, and Defining Self in the African Diaspora, will take place Thursday, March 2, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Escoffery’s talk will include readings from If I Survive You, his debut collection of eight linked stories focusing on the experiences of a Jamaican immigrant family living in Miami as they navigate place, liminality, family dynamics, and the American mythos. “A sometimes funny, sometimes engaging, sometimes wrenching novel…Escoffery’s writing is lively… his well-crafted stories, and he’s insightful and witty about Miami’s multiracial, multicultural, multilingual population. If I Survive You is a most promising debut,” writes Colette Bancroft of the Tampa Bay Times. A national bestseller, If I Survive You is longlisted for the 2023 the Pen/Jean Stein Open Book Award, the Pen/Faulkner Award, the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and the Aspen Words Literary Prize. Longlisted for the 2022 National Book Award for Fiction, it is also a finalist for the 2022 National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Prize, among many other honors. Escoffery’s fiction has been featured in The Paris Review, The Best American Magazine Writing, the Prairie Schooner and other outlets. Raised in Miami, he earned a 2020 National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship and the Plimpton Prize for Fiction, among other awards. He is also a fellow in the University of Southern California’s Ph.D. Creative Writing and Literature program.
