Book Signing: Tracy Burger w/ Running Away from Home

Presented by Midtown Reader at Midtown Reader

About the book:
Many of us who grew up in the seventies saw the perfect home, exemplified in the afternoon TV reruns of Leave It to Beaver and The Brady Bunch, and in weekly evening installments of Happy Days. June Cleaver, Carol Brady and Marion Cunningham demonstrated that mothers were a supportive, stable presence in the household, empathizing with their children and providing the required safety net for their experiences and needs. But this wasn’t how author Tracy Burger experienced it.

In Running Away from Home, Burger explores her lifelong dispassionate relationship with her mother, why she couldn’t connect with her mom during the last five years of her life and her desperate need to please her.

This story will inspire personal reflection and open dialogue on important topics like:
• Childhood emotional neglect — what it is and how it can manifest in adults;
• Depression — removing the stigma and silence;
• Dysfunctional family dynamics — acceptance of less-than-healthy family relationships;
and
• Value in telling one’s story — stories connect people through time and distance to the common and messy human condition.

Readers will relate to Burger’s portrayal of familial relationships and be inspired by the vulnerable telling of an average woman’s story. If you are a lover of memoirs or true-life stories, this book is for you.

About the author:
Tracy is a certified coach and trained facilitator with a passion for helping people see their way out of suffering, see life as a journey to be marveled and step out of the illusion of the mind. Her passion for deepening human relationships through better conversations and stories led her to writing her memoir, Running Away from Home. She believes in each person’s individual power and purpose and serves them to improve their lives, their relationships and everyday performance. Tracy lives in Gainesville, FL with her husband and two German Shepherd dogs, reads everything nonfiction, bikes occasionally just to feel the wind in her face, and enjoys popcorn and movie night any day of the week.
