Olga

Presented by Tallahassee Film Society at All Saints Cinema

In 2013, Olga, an up-and-coming gymnast, is 15 years old when she comes to Switzerland from her tumultuous home in Kyiv, Ukraine, where her friends and family reside. Young, alone, and excruciatingly aware of the political oppression and subsequent protests brewing in her distant home, Olga feels disconnected from her new life and finds herself unable to more than drift aimlessly alongside her new teammates. When the Maidan Revolution takes to the streets and thousands of people are endangered by the Yanukovitch regime, including Olga's intrepid mother, an investigative journalist, Olga is left beside herself as her home and nation become increasingly war-torn and the lives of her loved ones are threatened.
Especially relevant today "Olga" displays a heartbreaking perspective of political turmoil and national events through the eyes of a young, isolated teenager ripped from her cultural identity and home, elevated by the fantastic performance of Ukrainian gymnast, Anastasia Budyashkina.
