Frequently disturbed and frustrated with her overbearing father, Ante, and her dismissive mother, Nela, 17-year-old Julija simply wishes to escape her life of mundanity and eel-fishing, longing to live like the teenagers who freely and jovially yacht near her family's isolated Croatian island. When the wealthy Javier comes along, offering to buy the land to build a resort, Julija believes she sees an opportunity in his offer: A way for her family to leave the isolation of their lonely isle and a potential romance for Julija. Javier, also a former lover of Nela's, begins to flirt with both her and her daughter, complicating their relationship and spurning Ante's bitterness and his fixation on his domineering father role.
